The Balearic Islands form a small archipelago just off the Mediterranean coastline of Spain, and the warm climate and attractive surroundings have long made this area a prime holiday destination.
Majorca is one of the most popular islands and is favorite summer sun destinations for thousands of holidaymakers every year. Much of the island is heavily built up, particularly around the coastlines in the south, but this does mean that there are plenty of modern facilities. If you make your way inland however Majorca can still offer some quiet and unspoilt areas, such as the beautiful Tramuntana Hills.
Ibiza has become famous in the last few decades as one of the premier party destinations in the world, and there are certainly some very popular towns which offer clubbing, all night bars and youthful beaches. However much of Ibiza still remains quite rural, and there are some lovely old towns and village which still enjoy a traditional way of life.
All of the Balearic Islands have lovely beaches, but Menorca is renowned most of all for its stunning coastal beauty and has a number of idyllic white sandy beaches and secluded coves. Menorca is also a bit quieter than Ibiza and Majorca, and so tends to attract families and older travelers looking for more peaceful getaways.
You can travel to Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca easily by air, and there are plenty of local and international flights available that link these islands together and to the rest of the world. You can also travel in by boat, and the main port is in Palma, Majorca.
