The Pitcairn Islands is the last British territory in the pacific and it’s located in the southern Pacific Ocean. Prior to the 15th century when the first Polynesians settlers arrived there, the Islands remained uninhabited. The island offers an enjoyably moderate climate all year round.

To get to the Pitcairn islands, one must first fly to Mangareva in the Gambier Islands. Because the islands has no airstrips, one must approach the Islands by water and that may well mark the beginning of one’s vacation in the Pitcairn islands by boarding different cruise ships. Private yachts are available to ferry tourists to and from the islands.

The island is populated with barely fifty permanent residents who are descendants of the early Polynesian settlers. Due to a lack of ports of any kind, the island remains largely unexplored and is thus quite wild. There is no secure anchorage or lodging on the island and permission from the administration in Auckland must be sought and once granted, one will be furnished with lodging and other conveniences.

Hotels are non-existent on the island but one can enjoy the very good hospitality of the local people in their natural homes. Also, luxury villas complete with swimming pools and self catering holiday apartments are available to rent for those who cannot part with a measure of privacy and freedom.

One needs upwards of a few days to really get to know about the Pitcairners and their island. One needs ample time to explore this wild land. From the Pitcairn Island, the tourist/explorer is advised to sail to the Henderson Island if he/she wants a special and memorable excursion. The Henderson Island’s mark as a world heritage site is a testament to the virgin sights and sounds that can be experienced here.

Water enthusiasts can run amok as they can enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving. Bird watching is a favorite pastime of tourists here and the island boasts of a lot of unique species of birds.

The main occupation of the islanders is honey collection and crude bee farming. The honey obtained thereof is said to be of unparalleled quality, pure and disease free. As a result of this, the tourists are barred from bringing any bee related paraphernalia to the islands.

There is a lovely museum here that showcases in detail the island’s history. The island derives a sizable source of income from stamp collecting and its study. Vacationing in the Pitcairn Islands may prove to be on the expensive side but a number of activities to do and places to visit make it a worthwhile experience and money well spent.

A lovely place set in between the UK and Ireland, the Isle of Man offers plentiful attractions to keep all visitors happy every year. The island offers everything from steam engines to beautiful mountains and oceans bustling with exotic wildlife. Arguably the major attraction in this small island is Motorcycle racing which attracts thousands of bikers from all over the world.

Island Glens is a virgin island and it has lovely and pleasant natural gardens. The coastal regions have a lot of great beaches and pools, which are always a sight to behold and a location to revel and indulge in. There are about 17 National gardens here, each with its own beautiful milieu and cool and comfortable walkways.

There are museums in every town which informs tourists on the rich history and the importance of this place. The Manx museum is where all the national prizes are kept. Art collections and artifacts describing life as it had been much earlier, gives the visitors a good basis for comparison and a very good idea of how the island has evolved.

For Motorcycle enthusiasts, the Motorcycle Museum offers the most extensive collection of vintage bikes and models in the region. It is a place where all the biker lovers must create room for in their itinerary so as to be able to envision the past of the biking scene as it was decades ago.

Over and a way from the City of Peel, stands a tall landmark called Corrin’s tower. The tower was built by Thomas Corrin around 1806 to demarcate the area of land that he owned. Presently, a graveyard where Thomas Corrin and his family are buried is situated right next to the tower. The tower is four stories high and is square at the bottom. There is a salon with a fire place on the third floor. Also known as Corrin’s Folly, this tower is in the middle of nowhere, and it draws fascinated tourists from all over who look forward to exploring the tower’s interiors.

What was initially built as a large pavilion was shut down and reopened as an Opera house called the Gaiety theater. The theater was later converted into a cinema house around the late 1950s. Showing the latest and most popular releases, it continues to provide cinematic entertainment to the locals and tourists. Visitors can feast their eyes with the splendid appearance of its interiors and exteriors. Located close to the sea bank, it can be easily accessed from anywhere in the Island.

With so many numerous things to see in the Isle of Man, you should make it a trip that you will never forget.

Located close to the French Normandy, Jersey is a British Island that puzzle people as to how such a small place can offer such a wide range of attractions. Jersey is a Crown possession and does not really belong to the UK nor is it a part of the European Union. Amongst all the British Channel islands it is found to be the largest; the climatic conditions here are moderate and pleasant throughout the year. Winters and summers are mild.
If you plan to visit the Island of Jersey, this list of five must visit places will prove invaluable while planning.

The Jersey Art Center is where every kind of art related activity including performing art takes place and thus it is a very popular tourist destination. Shows, plays, and performances take place here on a daily basis. The performance, either by professionals or by amateurs, promises to be very entertaining. The royal view, interiors and the amount of information evident and deducible from the walls will awe any person visiting this center.

The Royal Jersey Show-ground is the location for almost all conferences and get-together here. The beautiful vista of the whole area can be enjoyed from the calm countryside which allows tourists to select places they want to visit. Family meetings and all such other events are held in the halls within the campus here and they are a frequent occurrence. The halls are a stone’s throw from St. Helier, the capital town, thereby making it easily accessible to all the residents on the islands.

The Jersey Zoo, founded by Gerald Durrell, occupies hundreds of acres and has many rare and exotic animals and birds on exhibition some of which are on the endangered species list. The animals within the perimeter of the zoo have full freedom to roam the length and breath of the place, with no inhibiting fences or cages. Viewing the animals in such a state gives one a glimpse into their behavior in their natural habitat. The center also engages in the breeding of some of the endangered species of wild life and frees them in the wild, once they can be reasonably sure that the released animals can survive on their own. This program helps the ecology survive and flourish by replenishing its fauna.

The Jersey War Tunnels is a delightful museum and it relates accurately the history of the German occupation of the islands during World War II. It also tells of the island’s growth and transition since then. This education makes the Jersey War tunnels so attractive and irresistible to the tourists.

Hauteville House once hosted the legendary Victor Hugo during his exile and is a popular attraction for tourists. Hugo is said to have gotten his inspiration from here and written Les Miserables. The house, furniture, books, and other items used by Hugo is well preserved within the Hauteville House. There are holiday villas, self catering holiday apartments and holiday cottages available to the tourists and they can rent these homes directly from their owners.

They are so many beautiful things to see in Jersey. You might get here and decide never to return home.

The UK has some diverse and beautiful landscapes, from the golden sandy beaches of Cornwall through to the trendy city centre of London, and there are so many fantastic places to go on holiday visitors will be spoilt for choice. Here are just a few of the top holiday destinations in the UK.

Mawgan Porth, Cornwall

Few beaches in the country can match the stunning rugged beauty of Mawgan Porth, which is on the north coast of Cornwall near Newquay. Imposing cliffs on all sides of the beach protect the soft white sands from the worst of the weather, and the water is so clear and blue it looks like a Mediterranean paradise. There are also a number of rock pools and caves that children will enjoy exploring, and because you are near the most south westerly point of the country the sunsets are unrivalled, and there is nothing between you and the horizon apart from miles of wild Atlantic Ocean. Surfing is popular as well on this beach, and there is a school for beginners here and several excellent surf shops nearby selling equipment and clothing.

Eilean Shona, Scotland

If you like to get away from other people on your holidays, then Eilean Shona is the place for you. This private island off the west coast of Scotland is just a short boat ride from the mainland, and offers a tranquil, setting of white sand beaches, native woodlands and rolling hills. You can stay at the beautiful historic house, which sleeps up to 11 adults and 8 children, and comes complete with a full compliment of staff. A holiday on this stunning island will set you back by £7,000 per week full board, which if you fill the house right up works out to be £368 per person, which is not bad for the chance to stay on such a stunning private island getaway.

London

There is so much to see and do in London you will be spoilt for choice, from the latest trendy bars and restaurants to seeing some of the most iconic historic monuments in the world (Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament etc). London also has several world class museums and art galleries, and top favourites included The Natural History Museum, The Tate Gallery and The Imperial War Museum. Lots of visitors come to London purely for the excellent shops, and this truly is one of the greatest shopping cities in the world with such a diverse range of departments stores, shops, boutiques, delicatessens, warehouses and markets on offer you can just about buy anything you could ever want here.

It’s possible to get a little blasé about the well-trodden tourist trail that awaits visitors to London and southern England. Repeat visitors to the UK capital will known that familiar feeling of standing after arrival at London’s Victoria, St Pancras International, Waterloo, or Liverpool St Stations and just gazing out over a vista that promises little more than postcards of the royal family, traditional ales, or all-day breakfasts.

There are a few new and innovative additions to the walking tour scene, and of course the vibrant street festivals that characterise certain districts of London and that are a fun and flavoursome way to get a taste of all the quirks of London city life, but when it comes to accommodation, you’d be understood if you were left scratching your head a little.

The choice between all the different types and styles of hotels in London is certainly mind-boggling, and the right choice often depends on your travel requirements – for instance travelling on a strictly-enforced budget and checking into youth hostels in London, something more extravagant but better suited for a business trip, right through to travelling with a family or looking into the possibility of self-catered apartments.

Yet there is a way to experience something new on your next trip to London and southern England – and that’s by taking a step back to enjoy life in the slow lane. Hotel boats are an unbeatable way to sample the ebbs and flows of life in London, to check out some of the prime sights from a different perspective, and to spend an idyllic or romantic weekend. Catered for couples or small groups, there are only a few hotel barges that offer their services along the Thames, but the experience is well worth it. Staying onboard overnight also gives guests a fine opportunity to feel exactly what it would be like to own a houseboat, and it’s a hands-down winner over day cruises, both in terms of value for money and catering.

Discover a new side to London, come down to the riverside.
